Day Seventy-Four -- Colors...

Copyright 2009.  Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

*Finding a crack in time... it is no more crazy than a dog finding a rainbow.  Dogs are colorblind - they don't see color.  Just like we can't see time.  We can feel it.  We can feel it passing, but we can't see it.  It's just a blur.  It's like we're riding a supersonic train and the world is just blowing by.  But imagine if we could stop the train...  imagine if we could stop that train and get out - look around and see time for what it really is.  A universe - a world.  A thing as unimaginable as color to a dog, and as real and tangible as that chair you are sitting in.  Now... if we could see that, I mean really look at it, then maybe we could see the flaws as well as the form.*

Day Seventy-Three -- Right Where I Wanna Be

Copyright 2009.  Nags Head, NC.

*At the beach, life is different.
A day doesn't move hour to hour,
but leaps from mood to moment.
We go with the currents,
plan around the tides,
follow the sun.*

Day Seventy-Two -- Just ridin' along...

** This next week is the week that we usually go to the beach every year. This year, due to my brother's wedding at the end of June we had to cancel our trip. So I'm going to use this week to post favorites of our past trips to the Outer Banks**

Copyright 2008.  Taken on our horseback trip in Hatteras, NC.

*A horse is a projection of people's dreams about themselves.  Strong, powerful, beautiful -- and it has all the capability of giving us escape from our mundane existence.*

Day Seventy-One -- Wish I was Here...

Copyright 2009.  Nags Head, North Carolina.

*I love this spot.
It's like Heaven right here on Earth.
Maybe that's what Heaven is.
Maybe we go through life
collecting people and places we love...

And they become our Heaven.*

Day Seventy -- Children's Book Week!

Photo by me -- From the book "You are All My Favorites" by: Sam McBratney

*It is not enough to simply teach children to read; we have to give them something worth reading.  Something that will stretch their imaginations - something that will help them make sense of their own lives and encourage them to reach out towards people whose lives are quite different from their own.*

Day Sixty-Nine -- That quiet voice at the end of the day...

Copyright 2010.  Another sky picture... 'cause I love 'em!

*Courage does not always roar.
Sometimes courage is the quiet voice
at the end of the day
saying 'I will try again tomorrow'.*

Day Sixty-Eight -- Just One of Those Days...

Copyright 2010.  I see this all day long at work... lol.

*Because you had a bad day,
you're takin' one down,
you sing a sad song just to turn it around.
You say you don't know,
tell me don't lie,
You work at a smile and you go for a ride...

Cause you had a bad day.*

Day Sixty-Six -- Grapes

Copyright 2010.

*The sun, with all the planets revolving around it, and depending on it, can still ripen a bunch of grapes as though it had nothing else in the universe to do.*

still left around you,
and be happy.*

Day Sixty-Four -- Happy Mother's Day...

Copyright 2008.  Photo taken by my father at my graduation from EKU.

*But there's a story behind everything.  How a picture got on a wall.  How a scar got on your face.  Sometimes the stories are simple, and sometimes they are hard and heartbreaking.  But behind all your stories is always your mother's story, because hers is where yours begins.*

Day Sixty-Three -- God's Grace is everywhere...

Copyright 2010.  Storm's brewin'.

*Finding God's grace wasn't like locating missing keys or the forgotten name of a 1940's pinup girl - it was more of a feeling:  the sun breaking through an overcast morning, the softest bed sinking under your weight.  And of course, you couldn't find God's grace unless you admitted you were lost.*

Day Sixty-Two -- The Early Bird...

Copyright 2010.  Finch in my backyard

*A couple hundred years ago Benjamin Franklin shared with the world the secret of his success;  'Never leave that till tomorrow,' he said, 'which you can do today.'  This is the man who discovered electricity - you'd think more of us would listen to what he had to say.  I don't know why we put things off, but if I had to guess I'd say it has a lot to do with fear.  Fear of failure, fear of pain, fear of rejection.  Sometimes the fear is just of making a decision, because what if you're wrong?  What if you're making a mistake you can't undo?

'The early bird catches the worm.'  'A stitch in time saves nine.'  He who hesitates is lost.'

We can't pretend we haven't been told.  We've all heard the proverbs, heard the philosophers, heard our grandparents warning us about wasted time.  Heard the damn poets urging us to 'seize the day.'  Still sometimes we have to see for ourselves.  We have to make our own mistakes.  We have to learn our own lessons. We have to sweep today's possibility under tomorrow's rug until we can't anymore.  Until we finally understand for ourselves what Benjamin Franklin meant;  That knowning is better than wondering.  That waking is better than sleeping.  And that even the biggest failure... even the worst, most intractable mistake... beats the hell out of never trying.*

Day Sixty-One -- More sunshine and blue skies...

Copyright 2010.  Blue skies after the storm...

*My chest feels full of glitter and helium, the way it used to when I was little and riding on my father's shoulders at twilight, when I knew that if I held up my hands and spread my fingers like a net, I could catch the coming stars.*

Day Sixty -- Raining Buckets... or at least enough to fill 'em!

Copyright 2010.  The bucket in our neighbor's yard... full of over 36 hours of straight RAIN!

*The best kind of rain, of course, is a cozy rain.  This is the kind the anonymous, medieval poet makes me remember.  The rain that falls on a day when you'd just as soon stay in bed a little longer, write letters, or read a good book by the fire... take early tea with hot scones and jam and look out the streaked windows with complacency.*

Day Fifty-Nine -- Feeling a little squirrely.

Copyright 2010.  One of the fine furry friends in my backyard :O)

*If we had a keen vision
of all that is ordinary in human life,
it would be like hearing the grass grow,
or the squirrel's heart beat...

And we should die of that roar,
which is the other side of silence.*

-- George Eliot --
